Position: Day Program Staff with Van Route.
Status: Full Time

Location: Route starts on the west side of town (Littleton/ Lakewood) and ends at Spectrum Day Program and Academy 3333 S Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood 80227
Position Overview: As a member of the Day Program team, you have the incredible opportunity to serve an amazing population with intellectual and developmental disabilities and make a real difference in their lives. You will be providing care by ensuring everyone’s health and safety while empowering them to get the most out of their day.
Spectrum offers people within the I/DD population several different settings to enrich their daily lives and improve their adaptive learning skills. Our day-program is a safe space for participants to work on individualized skills, grow, and interact with their peers. To foster further engagement, community outings provide an environment to practice safety skills, inclusion, and much more. Finally, our Spectrum Academy focuses on smaller group learning, innovative ideas, and technology. Our diverse program offerings allow us to cultivate a personally tailored experience to each of our participants affording everyone an opportunity to thrive and feel successful.
Position Purpose: Delivering transportation, companionship and assistance services, using a company vehicle, to individuals that attend day program across the Denver Metro Area. As a valuable staff member of Day Program, you will facilitate and assist our participants to learn, develop and maintain valuable life skills.
Job Functions
During Transportation:
- Assist individuals with disabilities as they get on and off the vehicles.
- Act as a representative of Spectrum and ensure that all those receiving services are treated respectfully.
- Immediately address any behaviors, escalations, or issues that may occur during the route and report to supervisor.
- Immediately report all problems that occur during route to supervisor.
- Responsible for the safety and security of the van and client specific information
- Complete weekly inspections of the van
As Direct Care Staff:
- Work with individuals to meet their formal and informal goals, as well as service plan requirements.
- Supervise and monitor clients to maintain safety and appropriate supervision levels.
- Assist with feeding, and activities of daily living required to ensure the success of our participants, including hand over hand and assistance in the restroom.
- Engage, participate, and lead group activities with those receiving services.
- Work with individuals to meet their formal and informal goals, as well as service plan requirements to help create a meaningful life for others.
- Supervise and monitor clients to always maintain safety and appropriate supervision levels.
- Assist with feeding, changing, and performing any activities of daily living required to ensure the health and safety of our participants. This includes verbal prompting, hand over hand and full physical assistance in the restroom. Must be comfortable and confident in performing bathroom supports - No experience with this? Don't worry, we have a great team ready to always support and train you.
- Model and uphold ethical boundaries with clients and peers.
- Transportation of individuals to and from the Day Program or individual appointments will be required.
- Solve problems, handle conflict, and be mentally adaptable in dealing with multiple individuals with challenging behaviors when in Day Program
- Complete daily notes and goals tracking through Spectrum’s provided online tools and monthly paperwork.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least one year working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities or related field.
Requirements
- At least 21 years of age or older
- High energy, positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and a passion for caring for others.
- Pass a Criminal and Colorado Adult Protective Services (CAPS) background check.
- Possess a valid Driver’s License and is willing to undergo a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.
- Able to park Spectrum van at residence (not street parking)
- Able to provide all elements of hands-on care per client’s individual needs.
- Dependable and Punctual
- Possess a positive attitude, be compassionate and have an aptitude to care for others, and the ability to communicate with peers and other staff members.
Physical Requirements
- Able to provide all elements of hands-on care per client’s individual needs.
- Bend, sit, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Work on your feet throughout (approximately 8 hours) the day and transfer clients, independently and with assistance
- Transfer clients in and out of vans
- Transfer clients in and out of wheelchairs, from a sitting to a standing position and vice versa, and in the restroom. (Two person transfers take place in Day Program)
